Elective Focus Areas

Students must complete a minimum of 21 hours of study which demonstrate coherence, focus, and purpose within a biomedical engineering context. Students may choose from among the areas pre-approved by the Biomedical Engineering faculty, or they may propose their own, student-tailored EFA. Please refer to the current EFA list of courses satisfying each pre-approved track.

All students should consult with their departmental advisor and submit for approval their EFA plan to the BME Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. Requests should be submitted on a Departmental Elective Focus Plan Form.

The Pre-Approved EFAs:

Student Tailored EFAs:
Students may tailor their course selection to achieve a goal outside of those implicit to the pre-approved tracks, as long as the course selections show coherence, focus, and purpose.

Note: Regardless of the focus area, at least one elective must be a three-semester hour technical course (an engineering science or design course).
